Fairfield resident and mom writes second children’s book
Nancy Fabian has released Nira’s Heart, a children’s book that sheds light on people with differences and teaches that beauty comes from within.
About the Book: Nira was a princess. She was kind and warm-hearted. Nira was well liked for her humble nature regardless of her royalty. But Nira was not a beautiful princess like most princesses are. She wanted to find beauty to become the princess everyone expected her to be. Nira wanted to shine amongst all at the ball. If only she could find a way to discover true beauty by the time of the ball. Nira’s journey leads her on a search and revelation about beauty and inner beauty that will change her life forever.
Nancy Fabian was born with Moebius Syndrome, a bilateral facial paralysis. She had to learn from an early age how to live with a disability. This was particularly difficult during the formative school years, when her peers were not educated about disabilities, especially facial disfigurements.
Nancy’s experience inspired her to help children better understand differences, as well as learn tolerance and acceptance of others. It is her wish to make a difference by informing through storytelling and diverse characters that are challenged in some way. The goal is to open the hearts and minds of the readers and inspire them to have the courage to excel despite one’s shortcomings. As Nancy says, “We are not disabled but enabled differently than others.”
Both Nira’s Heart and The Red Cat, Nancy’s first book, teach an important lesson — Being different is something to celebrate and accept. Only through acceptance of your true self can you love your persona and the self image you reflect to others.

Local Children’s Musician Reaches Out To Community to Make Dream a Reality
Local family musician, Jeffrey “THE BOSSY FROG BAND” Friedberg, is seeking to make a Cajun, Bluegrass, Rockabilly, Jazz, Latin, African Drumming, Folk, Blues, Rock and Country CD of 15 Classic Kid’s Songs using all amazing local musicians! He is appealing to the community to help him make the CD by using Kickstarter to help fund the project. He needs to presell 400 copies of the CD and then he can make it a reality. The CD is a true representation of his community’s cultures and he wants to interpret the old children’s classics reflecting the current world in which kids are growing up.
The kickstarter campaign runs until Nov. 1st and if he doesn’t reach his preset goal he gets….nothing. Please check out the video about his project.
Jeffrey performs over 200 shows per year and has performed for over 100,000 people with THE BOSSY FROG BAND. He has independently recorded 7 CDs of music for children and families.

CT Food Bank Seeks Neighborhood Partners
Here is a great opportunity to give back.
The mission of Connecticut Food Bank is to alleviate hunger. And they need your help. They are seeking neighborhood partners for a weekly food-giving program. Families who want to contribute non-perishable food weekly to the CT Food Bank are given a shoesize box Tupperware container at no cost. They put the food they want to donate in the box and place the box next to their mailbox at their neighborhood’s agreed-upon date and time (in my neighborhood in Stamford it’s Saturday mornings at 9:30). One of the neighborhood families travels around the neighborhood, picking up the food. It takes 20 minutes, maximum. All the collected food is stored in someone’s garage until the CT Food Bank picks it up, probably once a month.
This project is a great way for kids to learn to give back to their community. It’s also a wonderful way for older students to fulfill their school’s community service requirement.
If you are interested, please contact Mary Lynn Halland at 917-657-0943 or marylynn@crny.net. Mary Lynn’s Stamford neighborhood has been participating for years. She thinks it could work here in Fairfield too!

Connecticut Food Bank provides food and resources to approximately 600 community-based food programs, such as soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters and low-income adult and child day programs in six of the state’s eight counties: Fairfield, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London and Windham. Connecticut Food Bank is the largest centralized source of emergency food in Connecticut and distributes an average of 33 tons of food every business day. Learn more at www.ctfoodbank.org.
