Last Chance for Blueberry Picking

It took us all summer but we finally made it to Jones Family Farms to pick blueberries. The season has been good and the field will be open for all day, late season picking on Tuesday, September 1. Call (203) 929-8425 before you go for details.

Very Merry Berry Ferry

Kids and adults will enjoy an open air ride on the Very Merry Berry Ferry, which takes you to the best location in the field for berry picking. Once there, a friendly staffer will show you which sections are open for picking.

Picking berries

The blueberries were ripe and delicious when we went last week. Since they hang low and are light, it was easy for little ones to pick.

Ferry Stand

Once you’ve filled up your box or basket, you wait for the ride back so you can weigh your berries and pick up some fresh corn before you head home. It’s a fun adventure for the family!

Zebra, Ostrich and Emu…Oh My!

Looking for an easy and fun day trip for the family? Just an hour north of Fairfield is Action Wildlife - a zoo, drive-thru safari and museum exploration center – which offers the opportunity of observing and learning about animals from North America, Africa, India, New Zealand, Asia and the Artic. There’s also a petting zoo where feed cups are available. Located in Goshen, Action Wildlife sits upon the Northwest Hills of Litchfield County, surrounded by glorious fields of green. Visit www.actionwildlife.org for more information.

We were there recently and our entire family had fun visiting the animals.

Get Bowled Over

Bowling at Nutmeg BowlIf you’re sun-drenched or need a rainy day activity, take the kiddies to Nutmeg Bowl for their summer special of just $2.25 per game. Nutmeg Bowl offers bowling shoes as small as toddler size 8 and balls as light as 6 lbs. Bumpers are available for an extra $5 but you will get a coupon for free bumpers on your next visit. We went with friends and had a grand old time. My two year old needed help with the 6 lb. ball but our 3 year old buddy handled it just fine.

Nutmeg Bowl celebrates its 50th Anniverary on September 6 and 7 with special discounts on games, shoe rentals and food, plus a visit from Elmo and Blue’s Clues. Contact Nutmeg Bowl at 367-7741 for more details.

Grand Opening – The Promenade at the Brick Walk

Grand Opening celebration

Many were on hand to celebrate the grand opening of the shops at The Promenade last week.  It felt like a community block party with shops offering drinks to visitors and welcoming the crowds.

davesamuels

Renowned jazz sensation Dave Samuels was the featured performer.

Face painting

Children enjoyed free face painting by the talented Lyette Segerdahl. You can contact her at 434-3512 for parties and other decorative painting inquiries.

Plus, Amore Baking Company served complimentary – and delicious – cookies and breads. And there were several flavors of gelato available for only $1 a scoop. We enjoyed the tiramisu and chocolate fudge. Doors open to the public very soon and it’s definitely worth a trip!
